Which is the canonical revision for DPDD document?

I noticed that the short link to the Data Products Definition Document http://ls.st/dpdd points to the revision dated October 7, 2013, whereas the link https://docushare.lsstcorp.org/docushare/dsweb/Get/LSE-163 points the the latest revision (Sep 26, 2016).

Should I consider the latest revision (Sep 2016) the canonical one?

Yes.

You can see the complete history of the document in DocuShare. I think it’s safe to assume that the version marked “preferred” there will always be the latest approved version; that’s a better guide than relying on the URL shortener.

That said, I’ve created IT-291 to request that the link be updated.

This is now solved. The link http://ls.st/dpdd points to the latest version of the document.

The short URL seems to expand to https://docushare.lsstcorp.org/docushare/dsweb/Get/LSE-163/LSE-163_DataProductsDefinitionDocumentDPDD.pdf . I think that’s fragile, as it depends on the actual file name of the current version of the document, which is not guaranteed to stay the same in later revisions. Can’t it just point to https://docushare.lsstcorp.org/docushare/dsweb/Get/LSE-163 ?

I don’t think this is a problem: see @igoodenow’s explanation at IT-291.

Correct. We had the exact same debate on the ticket. The file name at the end is just indicating what the retrieved version should be named and not the name of a specific remote resource.
