Invitation to Virtual Town Halls on Cyberinfrastructure for Multimessenger Astrophysics

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the SCiMMA team, I’d like to call your attention to a pair of virtual town halls about multimessenger astrophyisics that are scheduled for the next two weeks. The full announcement letter is below:

Recent breakthrough observations of GW170817A and IceCube-170922A highlight the promise, opportunities and challenges of the emerging field of Multi-Messenger Astrophysics (MMA).

The Community Planning for Scalable Cyberinfrastructure to support Multi-Messenger Astrophysics (SCiMMA; https://scimma.org) project invites interested physicists, astronomers, computer scientists, data scientists and others to participate in an NSF-funded community planning project to understand and document the cyberinfrastructure needs to realize the promise of MMA.

Please join one of our virtual town-hall meetings

to hear about the goals of the project, to discuss community needs, science drivers, use cases, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Contact information will be posted at the agenda link above. Broad engagement with the astronomy, physics, computer science, and data science communities will be crucial to identifying key questions and cyberinfrastructure needs.

Colleagues interested in MMA, next-generation cyberinfrastructure, and the intersection between the two are encouraged to attend. If you are interested in contributing to the SCiMMA effort, please sign up at https://goo.gl/forms/qiTTx3SwXW6ftcUu1 or contact SCiMMA members directly for more information.
